Our Story

It all started in my hometown of Saint Helena, California, when Markus was an intern at Turley Vineyards. One evening, we crossed paths and met at the local bar. From the moment we connected (after I offered a beer to break the silence), we quickly realized our shared passions for life, travel, and wine, and we wanted to get to know each other more. I was soon invited to many Braai’s, where I discovered his incredible ability to connect with people from all walks of life, even in my own hometown. Our friendship blossomed from there, fueled by our enthusiasm (and plenty of Mexican food!) for life and our desire to learn about each other’s cultures and backgrounds.

In December 2022, Markus and I began our journey, and he was eager to share his world with me. A trip to South Africa to meet his family deepened our bond, and I fell in love with the place. We worked and traveled to different countries, discovering wines and regions. We also cherished time back in Napa Valley with my family and friends, dreaming about our future together.

In a perfect full circle, Markus asked my family’s blessing before proposing to me at the end of 2023. Now, with our Chocolate Lab, Míjo, by our side, we’ve made our home in South Africa. We’re also excited to spend time in Saint Helena, where it all began, as we look forward to the next chapter of our lives.

travel essentials

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is easily accessible, with direct flights from major cities via airlines like Emirates, Delta, Turkish Airlines, and United. Consider adding a stopover in cities like New York, Atlanta, Dubai, Istanbul, or Doha, which are popular connections for flights to South Africa.

Break up the long trip and see another part of the world along the way or on the way home! Use sites like Skyscanner, Flight connections, and Kayak to help create a multi-city itinerary for you.

No special visas or shots are required to enter South Africa.

The airport is about an hour’s drive from the family farm. We recommend renting a car, as driving services can be limited in Malmesbury. Several car rental companies are available, including Sixt, Hertz, and Woodford.
